The Town of Claremont has been honoured with a Partnerships and Collaboration Award at the LG Professionals WA Honour Awards
The Town of Claremont has been honoured with a Partnerships and Collaboration Award at the LG Professionals WA Honour Awards for their ongoing relationship with the Friends of Lake Claremont (FOLC), and for their combined dedication to the conservation of Lake Claremont.
The award honours the outstanding collaborative effort between the Town and the community and recognises the achievements of both organisations to environmental preservation.
Lake Claremont is a conservation category wetland and Bush Forever site that was fully restored after the land was used for various other means, including a rubbish tip and golf course.
The collaborative effort of the Town and FOLC has led to a range of conservation initiatives, including habitat restoration, water quality improvements, educational programs, and community engagement programs.
The Friends of Lake Claremont was established in 2003 following several restoration initiatives in the preceding decades, and the Town has worked with the group for many years to restore and preserve the lake and its ecosystem.
All projects and works are guided by the Town of Claremont’s operational plan for the site, as well as the Lake Claremont Management Plan which was developed in close collaboration with the FOLC. The increase in flora and fauna is evidence of a healthy ecosystem at this popular community asset.
Mayor Jock Barker said the award is a significant honour and an appropriate acknowledgement of hard work.
“Lake Claremont is a cherished natural resource within the community and the perseverance and dedication shown by Town of Claremont staff and the Friends of Lake Claremont is indeed worthy of recognition,” he said.
“Their shared commitment to environmental conservation exemplifies the values we hold dear as a community.”
