Town of Claremont commits to green energy future

The Town of Claremont is joining with more than 40 Councils in signing up to move to 100% renewables for its contestable energy supply. The agreement, negotiated by WALGA with provider Synergy will see us shift to 100% renewables by next April. The renewable energy initiative is the first renewable and carbon aggregation project cleared by the ACCC. All renewable energy covered by the agreement is sourced from three WA wind farms.

Town of Claremont CEO Liz Ledger said she the decision to join the initiative with over 40 other local governments was an easy one.

“The Town of Claremont is proud to be on board with this landmark initiative. We have a strong commitment to sustainability and a move to green energy is aligned to our community’s values and aspirations.

“The shift to 100% renewable energy from April next year is a great collaborative initiative between local governments and supports a number of other sustainability initiatives undertaken by the Town. These include solar panels, managing and maintaining public trees, geothermal pool heating system and waterwise accreditation at the Aquatic Centre, and the installation of central control irrigation systems at a number of locations around the Town.”

The initial three-year agreement for an estimated $85 million and involving 48 WA Local Governments eclipses a similar project by 46 Victorian Councils.
