Two talented young singers have been named joint winners of the Town of Claremont's first Search for a Star competition.
Methodist Ladies' College students Zetta Hutchins and Jasmine Goonewardene will perform alongside Perth Symphony Orchestra at the Town's Carols in the Park on Saturday, 5 December.
"Zetta and Jasmine will each sing a solo with us on the night, they will also lead some of the sing-along carols and hopefully join us for the finale of the concert," Perth Symphony Orchestra Creative Director Fiona Campbell said.
"An initiative like this makes Christmas so much more fun and special to include local talent, and giving them such a fabulous opportunity to sing with an orchestra and showcase their talent," she added.
The competition attracted 43 online auditions, with eight finalists selected to perform at the Town's A Day on the Bay event in mid-October before Fiona and the public.
"I was blown away by the talent of all the young performers, not just with their beautiful voice but the delivery and presentation were of such a high standard, it was absolutely delightful to hear," Fiona said.
Mayor Peter Telford congratulated the winners and all those who entered.
"Congratulations to Zetta and Jasmine, and to every young performer who entered our Search for a Star competition," Mayor Telford said.
"Performing alongside the Perth Symphony Orchestra is a wonderful opportunity for these talented young singers, and I look forward to seeing our community cheer them on.
"Carols in the Park brings families, friends and neighbours together to celebrate in the heart of Claremont. Supporting young talent and sharing these experiences strengthens our connected community and the sense of belonging that makes our Town special," he added.
The Town of Claremont's Carols in the Park takes place on Saturday, 5 December, with programming beginning at 6pm and carols beginning at 7pm.
