Town of Claremont will be honouring Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee with an official tree planting event at Claremont Museum on Tuesday, 2 August 2022 from 9.30am.

Three native trees have been selected as the commemorative sign of this momentous occasion, the Fuschia Gum, Port Lincoln Mallee and Pin Cushion Hakea. Each tree was specifically chosen to enhance our natural environment, ensuring views of the river will not be obstructed as they grow.

Mayor Jock Barker will be joined by fellow Elected Members Deputy Mayor Cr Annette Suann and Cr Peter Telford and said the combination of history and conservation is something the Town is proud to be part of.

“Our native garden at our beautifully, newly renovated museum is the perfect place to plant these trees for everyone who wanders through to enjoy for years to come.”

“Here at Town of Claremont, we cherish our leafy streets and it’s fitting to contribute to our growing tree canopy just two days after National Tree Day, whilst celebrating Australia’s longest reigning Monarch of 70 years.”

Students from Swanbourne Primary School will join Mayor Barker in placing soil around the newly planted trees then continue into the museum for a day of historical education.

This project received funding from the Australian Government’s Planting Trees for The Queen’s Jubilee Program.
