The Claremont Museum’s Lost Skills program is back this month to revive lost skills and crafts. The next workshop on Sunday, 16 October is all about learning to fish.
Peter Goulding, owner of The Fishing School, will be teaching kids how to catch a fish right on the Museum's foreshore from Freshwater Bay.
Freshwater Bay is a nowadays a popular place to play but in the past was also an important source of food for the community. Kids will learn the art of fishing, including to reel, hook and bait with the opportunity to keep what they catch.
Mayor Jock Barker said the Lost Skills workshops are a wonderful opportunity to learn and discover common skills that were lost overtime.
“In the past, people needed all sorts of skills to survive. Fishing is an invaluable skill to learn and all the Lost Skills workshops are a fun way to connect and learn from experts and about the past.”
The Lost Skills workshops are held on the third Sunday of each month at the Claremont Museum. They are an educational and fun approach to learning lost skills and crafts of the past.
So far participants have enjoyed creating outdoor shelters, whittled wood and learnt how to prepare food in a wood fired stove.
Bookings are via the Town’s website What’s On page.
