Claremont Council has adopted its 2025-2026 Annual Budget with a conservative rate increase of 3.9% while continuing to deliver quality services and improve community infrastructure.
Endorsed at the Special Council Meeting 9 July, the budget highlights significant investments in infrastructure, including:
- Over $2,000,000 allocated for the Town’s Road program
- $830,000 dedicated to upgrading footpaths
- $340,000 committed to improving drainage systems
- Over $250,000 for the refurbishment of the Aquatic Centre changerooms, providing modern and up-to-date amenities for patrons.
An allocation of $50,000 will enable the Town to focus on future planning. Council will undertake community consultation to identify needs and provide clear direction for future community facility development.
Town of Claremont Mayor Jock Barker said the adoption of the 2025–26 Budget was a positive outcome for the community.
“This budget enables the Town to maintain and expand a wide range of high-quality programs and services that benefit not only Claremont residents, but also those who trade in and visit the Town Centre,” Mayor Barker said.
“I am pleased that small businesses in the Town Centre will continue to be supported through a range of initiatives funded through a Specified Area Rate, matched dollar for dollar by Council. In addition, Council continues to provide funds for Business Support Grants that stimulate economic growth and drive visitation to the Town Centre.”
“To support our objectives, the Town of Claremont is expected to receive nearly $1,300,000 in grant funding which will include, the Financial Assistance Grant, Roads to Recovery, Main Roads Direct Grant, Water wise greening scheme, Main Roads street light subsidy and the State Government grants for tree planting required due to polyphagous shot-hole borer,” he said.
The Town will continue its focus on environmental sustainability, preservation, and greening by increasing investment in tree planting, park maintenance, and the upkeep of reserves. More than $95,000 will be allocated to foreshore improvement works, enhancing the natural environment.
Funds have been allocated to support community, cultural, and recreational initiatives, including youth programs, heritage grants, arts and cultural development, sporting club subsidies, and activities at the Bay View Community Centre—highlighted by the creation of a new community garden.
