The Town of Claremont is providing young aspiring artists or creatives the opportunity to grow their skills and gain valuable experience in a paid mentorship initiative.
One enthusiastic person aged between 16-25 years will work alongside an experienced artist to create a new public mural.
The mentorship will cover all the steps of designing, creating and painting the mural which will provide an inspiring and visually appealing addition to the Town's growing public art collection.
Mayor Jock Barker says this mentorship gives a unique opportunity for someone to have a real-life paid work experience in a field where there is very few options available in Perth.
"The arts are important in our community, as are our young people. This initiative offers one young Claremont resident a chance to work with a professional artist and develop their talents and interest," he said.
"What is even better is that the completed artwork will feature on a wall at the Bay View Community Centre for the community to see and enjoy."
Last year's successful young resident was Chloe McDermott from Swanbourne, who worked with WA mural artist Haylee 'Fieldey' Fieldes. Together they created a work highlighting the new sport facilities at Rowe Park.
