Now in its ninth year, the Town of Claremont's biennial Art Awards & Exhibition received nearly 190 entries from residents across WA.

This year saw entries from further afield, including regional WA and all the way from Geraldton in the north to Dwellingup in the south.

Of these entries, 76 artworks have been shortlisted for the Awards and will be showcased in this year's exhibition.

Mayor Jock Barker said the calibre of submissions just keeps getting better every year and the rising popularity is a testament to the Town's arts and culture scene.

"Every year I'm blown away by the submission we receive and how these artists express themselves creatively, whether it's on canvas, in sculpture or in print," Mayor Barker said.

"With styes ranging from fun and colourful to highly sophisticated and meaningful, there's something for everyone to enjoy," he added.

"I am also proud to announce a new category that has been introduced for this year, a youth category for artists aged 16-25 years old."

The exhibition is open from 9-22 August, 9am-5pm Monday-Friday and 11am-3pm Saturday and Sunday, and all artworks are for sale.

The public can vote for their favourite piece for the People's Choice Award, with the winner to receive a $300.00 Claremont Quarter voucher.
