The Town of Claremont has a key role to play in supporting our community to feel safe and secure, which is central to it being a vibrant and desirable place to live, work and visit.
The Town in association with the WA Police, and with input from local businesses and the community, has developed and implemented strategies that aim to build a sense of community and deter anti-social behaviour.
As part of the actions identified within the Community Safety Plan, the Town of Claremont has upgraded and installed 48 new CCTV cameras, with another 21 cameras to be fitted by the end of the month, improving safety and security for all residents, visitors and business owners.
In addition to 23 cameras already in place, the new installations protect a range of key sites around the Town, including throughout Claremont Town Centre and the new bus interchange.
Since a successful trial in October 2021, the Town’s Community Safety Officers have expanded their patrol roster to service the community from 6am to 12 midnight, seven days a week.
Town of Claremont Mayor Jock Barker said the additions to the CCTV network create a widespread opportunity to help keep eyes on the streets.
“The Town is committed to safety and crime prevention, and we want to ensure the Town is a welcoming and safe place for everybody to enjoy,” he said.
“The upgrade to our CCTV is in conjunction with the successful implementation of our seven day a week roster for Community Safety Officers as well as continuing to work with the local police."
