Claremont Council is comprised of 9 Elected Members, one Mayor and eight Councillors elected across the District.
Council's role is to:
- Direct and control the Local Government's affairs;
- Be responsible for the performance of the Local Government's functions;
- Oversee the allocation of the Local Government's finances and resources; and
- Determine the Local Government's policies.
The Mayor and Councillors are elected for four year terms with half expiring every two years. The Mayor is elected by the residents and ratepayers of the Town, commonly known as the ‘popular vote’ method.
